Dr. Yu Hsin-Su Avatar

President / Yu Hsin-Su

   The 4th & 5th President of KMU

   July 2006 ~ June 2012

Graduated from Kaohsiung Medical College in 1972, President Yu is a distinguished alumnus of KMU. After achieving a doctorate degree from the University of Tokyo in Japan, he was awarded NIH Fogarty Postdoctoral Research Scholarship to do research at the Rockefeller University in the United States. He was conferred Outstanding Research Award for two times and Outstanding Scholar Research Project Award by National Science Council, and awarded honorary membership of both the Japanese Dermatological Association and the German Dermatological Association.

During his presidency at KMU in 2006~2012, President Yu stuck to these governance concepts: “High-quality teaching, innovative researches, excellent humanities, and social concern.” Meanwhile, he established two core values: “respect for life, and pursuit of truth.” KMU received funds from the Ministry of Education (MOE) for 6 consecutive years for the “University Teaching Excellence Project,” and also acquired subsidies from MOE for 3 consecutive years in 2008~2010 for the Advanced Study Research Center of Environmental Medicine for the “Development Plan for World Class Universities and Research Centers of Excellence,” and hence established “International Standard Toxicology Laboratory.” In the “Evaluation of University Departments and Graduate Schools” made by MOE in 2008, all 44 classes under 27 departments and graduate institutes of KMU passed the evaluation. In the “Evaluation of University Institute Affairs” for the 2nd semester of 2011, KMU passed all of the 5 evaluation items, fufilling the conditions of a university with “Outstanding Performance in University Administration.” On May 25, 2012, International Academic Research Building was completed, creating a new milestone for the future development of KMU.
