Glasgow-Kaohsiung Corpus of Academic Medical English (GKCAME) is a pilot corpus of audio and audiovisual documents that demonstrate the use of English in academic and medical settings. It is being developed by Glasgow University in Scotland and Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan.
The pilot corpus will contain around 12 hours of audio and visual documents. The documents will consist of: |
- Demonstration lectures
- Problem-based learning sessions
- Doctor-patient simulations
- Interviews with patients, healthcare professionals, etc.
|
| The documents will be available online in an audio or audiovisual format with simultaneous transcription. The documents will also be downloadable as multimedia files or plain text. In addition, GKAME will have an integrated suite of search tools such as: |
- Concordancer
- ‘Collocate clouds’
- ‘Compair’
|
|
The GKCAME team will develop educational activities related to the corpus, for self-study and classroom use. It is designed to support non-native speakers of English who are teaching and studying medicine, dentistry and nursing.
